History

Friends, the Holy Scriptures tell us: “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”

We welcome you in the Name of the Lord, the very same Lord whom we confess in the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, the “author and finisher of our faith,” Jesus Christ . Our parish was founded in 1944. It was begun under the vision of the great Athenagoras, Archbishop of America and later Ecumenical Patriarch. That visionary man with his penetrating gaze looked into the future and saw a parish that would one day be a light of Christanosyni in the Southwest of America. He forknew that our people would make a home here in the deserts of New Mexico and that we would be a healthy branch of the living vine which is the Church of Christ. He left for us a great challenge, to be the Church of Christ “epi to auto” in this place and for these people and that we aspire to be until today.

Our founders were primarily Greek immigrants who left their dear motherland Greece(Hellas) to seek safety, security, freedom and hope for the future.
